"I had logged over a million tour miles on my white Steinberger... the Cheeseberger... since I got it in 1991. It was really in need of an overhaul. Jeff Babicz completely refurbed it, and it plays better than new today.”
-Buck Dharma - Blue Oyster Cult
"In 1988 Jeff Babicz built me the first of many Steinberger‘s. After many world tours and albums, that guitar is still a foundation of my collection.
I’m grateful to have met such a master at his craft!"
-Vito Bratta - White Lion
"As a vintage GM Steinberger aficionado, there’s no more knowledgeable guitar tech than Jeff Babicz. Learning that HE was the one with the brand back in the day meant he knew EVERYTHING about the treasures. Since our meeting he’s worked on most all of my extensive collection and then ‘masterpieced’ five refurbished stock GM1T’s in colors of my choice - they are the absolute Bugattis of my stable! We have grown into the successful business we are today."
-Tod Howarth
-Ned spending time with Jeff Babicz in Jeffs workshop-
"Jeff,
God smiled on me the day you walked into Steinberger Sound looking for a job. Thank you for all your support all these years, and congratulations on your independent success."
-Ned Steinberger
"The one without the strings on is mine, I bought it brand new in late '85. I played it a lot and about 10 years ago it really needed work and I sent it to the only person who will ever work on this guitar as long as I have it, Jeff Babicz. For me, the issue is trust and if I’m going to send what is, to me, an irreplaceable instrument that is unique in it’s design, construction and possibly things needing work, I have to have complete trust not only in competence but in honesty.
And not only because someone working on an "L" series *really* needs to know what they're doing, but because I know that for Jeff, working on these unique and almost certainly never-to-be-molded-again guitars is much more than a job or a gig. He built that guitar new. And now, 10 years after I sent it to him for a lot of work, I felt it could use some more TLC and again, Jeff gave me every reason to never seek anywhere else. It just came back a couple of weeks ago and it's *just* right, perfect. Thank you Jeff" -Scott Loiselle
"Back in January 1986, I was searching for a guitar to add to my “sound”. My 1974 Les Paul Custom was great, but I was looking for something “new”. I went to my local shop, Rainbow Music in Poughkeepsie, New York and talked to Don Greenwald. We looked at the standard guitars of that era (Stratocasters, Telecasters, etc.) but everyone had those. Don showed me the newest guitar on the market, a Steinberger GL2T, designed by Ned Steinberger and built by Jeff Babicz in alittlefactory in Newburgh, New York. “What the heck is that, where are the tuners, where’s the headstock, what’s it made of”?, Don said, just try it. Radical is an understatement. I liked it, incredible action, sustain and smoothness. Bigbucks(for me), I told Don I’d sleep on it. Needless to say I went back a bought the GL2T. It performed well at all rehersals and shows I played for many years. It traveled well & seemingly never went out of tune. After decades, I stopped playing and the Berger went into the closet.
As time passed, I decided to start playing again and I bought a nice acousticguitar that got me back into it. As I played, I met people in the music business. Jimmy Heslin of The Axe Shop knew I had the Steinberger and he told me Jeff Babicz was still local and in business as a luthier. I thought I’d better contact Jeff about restoring my GL2T. Jeff and I met and we decided to do a 100% restoration; refretting, transtrem rebuild, complete electrical restoration, new EMG pickups, plus a beautiful buff & polish! Jeff even added his initials right next to his original initials from October 30, 1985. Jeff did an absolutely beautiful restoration. If you need anything Steinberger related, contact Jeff, accept no substitute." -Russell Macrini
"My Steinberger L2 (#400) was already a legendary instrument—but after Jeff Babicz got his hands on it, it became something truly special. Jeff, who led production at Steinberger back in the day, brought it back to life with incredible care and precision. Now it plays like a dream and sounds better than ever—tight, punchy, and unmistakably L2. Jeff’s the real deal, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with a bass like this."
-David Vota
I met Jeff Babicz in February 1985 when Don Greenwald took me to the Newburgh factory to pick out a Steinberger GL2. Over the decades, and especially since 2018, Jeff has presided over the “million-mile” tuneups of all of my Steinberger instruments; re-frets, a wildly cracked gel coat, a partially detached fingerboard, TransTrem rebuilds, electronic fixes, etc. Jeff has done it all.
In EVERY instance these guitars play, feel and work better than they did when they were new.
I could not have the music life that I do without these instruments…and Jeff’s skill and attention to detail have made them absolutely fantastic. It seems to me that there is no one on the planet who has a deeper and more universal understanding of these guitars. And has the skill to address any problem they might present. Hats off…!! - Steve Hayden
